Genesis — searchthescriptures @ 10:56 am
We come to the end of the next to last message in our series in Genesis today. And as we have seen, chapter 49 of this great book devotes itself to the account of the blessings Jacob bestowed on his twelve sons, prior to dying. We have seen that the blessings given to some of the sons were rather harsh and were likely due to the horrific things some of these men had done in their lives. But as we pick up today in verse 13, we come to the blessing of Zebulun, of whom we have not been given much information.

We began a look yesterday at the final blessings given by Jacob to his sons on his deathbed. Having looked at the change that God had worked in Jacob’s life over the years, from a deceiver to a deeply dedicated lover of God, we return today to the actual delivery of the blessings…and as we noted yesterday, some of these seem more like a curse!

As we near the end of our study in Genesis, we also near the end of the life of Jacob…and today as we move into chapter 49 we find Jacob on his deathbed, preparing to bless his twelve sons…but as we will see, these blessings in some cases sound more like a curse. Let’s join Pastor Broggi now as he looks at the background and purposes of these blessings, and how they really were meant to help.

We are nearing the end of our study in Genesis…as a matter of fact we find ourselves at Jacob’s deathbed as outlined in chapter 47. As we pick up we find Jacob blessing Joseph’s children, Ephraim and Manasseh. But our text indicates that Jacob was blessing the younger rather than the eldest grandson, as was the custom. Pastor Broggi addresses the poignancy of this moment and the significance this move by Jacob had on the eventual arrival of Jesus Christ.

As we near the end of the book of Genesis, in chapters 46 and 47 God gives us insight into the genealogy of Jacob and his sons. We saw yesterday some of the things the sons of Jacob’s wives, Rachel, Leah and Zilpah were noted for. As we conclude our message today, Pastor Broggi looks at the sons of Jacob and Bilhah.

We are nearing the end of our study in Genesis and in chapters 46 and 47 we see a genealogy of the sons of Jacob. Now some may find these lists somewhat tedious, but God includes them in His Word for a reason and today, Pastor Broggi will share why all scripture is profitable, even the genealogies.

We are nearing the end of our study in Genesis and as we move into Chapters 46 and 47 today we will get a bit of an introduction into the children of the patriarchs of Israel. We have seen how Joseph tested his brothers to see if they had really repented and turned their hearts toward the one true God of Israel. And as we begin today we’ll see the reunion of Joseph with his father, Jacob. And we will see how God sets the stage for the Israelites to spend the next 400 years in Egypt.

We have been looking at the life and character of Joseph in our study in Genesis and we saw yesterday how this godly man finally revealed himself to his brothers who so many years earlier had sold him into captivity. Through the whole story of Joseph and His brothers, we have been seeing an underlying theme, and that is the sovereignty of God…both in the good and the bad situations. We saw Joseph weeping as he revealed himself to the brothers, and now he weeps again as he sends them on their way to pick up their father and to bring him back to Egypt.
