Rescued From the Terrorists pt. 2

Dr. Broggi noted last time the incredible circumstances that were going on around the apostle Paul as he was being held prisoner by the Romans.  A conspiracy arose between the priest and elders to kill Paul.  But by God’s providence, Paul’s nephew happened to be within hearing distance of the more than forty men who formed the plot.  Again through God’s guidance the boy found Paul who was able to convince one of his guards to take the young man to the captain.   As we return to our lesson today, Dr. Broggi begins reading from verse 22 as he looks at the decision of the captain.

Rescued From the Terrorists pt. 1

From time to time the Lord chooses to allow circumstances to work out of what we may perceive as the ordinary or natural scheme of things.  God may allow supernatural events to occur in natural settings.  Such is the case in Acts 23 where God delivers the apostle Paul from those who are plotting against him.

Marathon Christianity pt. 2

We have seen the conviction of Paul, the humility of Paul, and yesterday we began a look at the perseverance of Paul. Our message is entitled Marathon Christianity and it is intended to show that like Paul we too can run the Christian race.  As we pick up in Acts 22 we see Paul addressing a crowd that had tried to have him killed.  He is sharing his testimony…and as Dr. Broggi explains his motives were not for gain, but Paul spoke from a good conscience.  And it was that good conscience that allowed him to seek the salvation of those who had earlier tried to kill him.

Marathon Christianity pt. 1

In our ongoing study of the book of Acts, we have spent the past several days looking at the apostle Paul.  We saw that upon his return to Jerusalem, at the temple a group of Jews that hated Christians sought to kill Paul.  Today we’ll see that despite the resistance he met, Paul kept sharing his faith knowing that he had to serve the one who had saved him, his Lord, Jesus Christ.

Paul Shares His Story pt. 2

We are in chapter 22 and we have so far seen Paul beaten by a mob who is incensed over his teaching.  This mob is calling on the Roman government to have Paul executed.  But, Paul asks the soldiers for permission to address the mob.  Upon realizing that Paul was not an Egyptian as had originally believed, the guards give him the opportunity.  At this point Paul gives his testimony of how he, like the mob, used to persecute Christians…but on the road to Damascus he had an encounter with the living God. It was then he realized that the religion he had been following was based on works and was worthless.  Let’s rejoin Pastor Broggi as he discusses how many today follow the same works-based religion as Paul did before his conversion.

Paul Shares His Story pt. 1

In our ongoing study of the book of acts, we have spend the past few episodes looking at the apostle Paul.  We have seen he was a man of conviction with the courage to stick to those convictions; we’ve also seen he was a humble man, and as we pick up today in Acts 21we see that Paul would do what it takes to blend in with those he came in contact, all so he would have a better chance to share the gospel.

There Goes My Life pt. 6

Audrey concludes a message entitled “There Goes My Life” in which she examines women’s lives in relation to a number of Psalms.  Psalm 8 has been a foundation – but she has also looked at a number of other passages.  As we pick up today, Audrey draws an analogy between women’s lives and their closets – and she recommends an occasional closet purge to make sure our lives, like our clothes are appropriate for our season of life.

Three Perils of a Growing Church pt. 1

In our study of the book of Acts we are in chapter 20, following the apostle Paul on his third missionary journey.  We have previously looked at the well lived life of this great man of God as well as what a healthy church looks like.  Today, we look at three perils of a growing church.  Our passage begins in verse 28, but to give a little background, Pastor Carl begins reading from verse 13 of Acts 20.
