Audrey has spent the past few weeks looking at women’s lives and relating the various ages and stages to some of the Psalms. Her foundational Psalm is Psalm 8, but she is also drawing from many other beautiful and inspiring Psalms in this message entitled, “There Goes My Life.” Let’s rejoin Audrey as she asks the members of her bible study to place their birthdate on an 80-year time line that has been drawn on their notes.

We move into chapter 19 today and deal with a passage that has been very controversial. The first 10 verses of this chapter talk about the work of the Holy Spirit that takes place in 12 men. As we rejoin Dr. Broggi, we see the apostle Paul questioning these men as to their understanding of the new birth.

Paul, on his second missionary journey encounters resistance to the gospel, first in Athens, then in Corinth…but God is gracious he puts a wonderful couple, Aquila and Priscilla in Paul’s path. This couple had a tent making business, and Paul, who also made tents when he wasn’t ministering, is immediately attracted to them. These wonderful people open their hands, their hearts and their home to Paul and prove to be great encouragers. Let’s rejoin Pastor Broggi now as we look further at how God encourages his servant.

As we move into chapter 18 today we find the apostle Paul having left the city of Athens going to Corinth. When it comes to dealing with pagan gentiles, this was like going from the frying pan into the fire. But Paul was operating under the direction of the Holy Spirit and regardless of the adversaries who sought to bring his ministry down, God still provided him with some wonderful disciples along the way…among these were Aquila and Priscilla who were able to encourage him despite the rejections.

Last time we began a look at the challenges the apostle Paul faced against the faith. These are the same challenges we as believers face as we share our own faith including superstitious idolatry. Dr. Broggi noted that idolatry is anything that you love more than God….anything you trust more than God…anything that you fear more than God and anything you serve more than God. We saw some of these idols can include money and alcohol…As we pick up we see that even pornography can be an idol.

Today we will look at the process the Phillpian jailer went through in coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We have seen how Paul and Silas came to be in prison. During their time there it seems likely that they had shared the wonder and joy of the Gospel. We come to that conclusion because the jailer asks “what Must I Do to be saved?” Dr. Broggi reviews the circumstances leading to the jailer’s question before he continues on with the confrontation the jailer experiences and the changes that take place in his life. We pick up in verse 26 where God causes a great earthquake.

As we continue our study of the book of Acts. We will look at some wonderful characters who are illustrated in verses 14 through 31. One of these is the Phillipian Jailer which Paul leads to Christ. We will see the confrontation experienced by the jailer and the ensuing changes, but today we will first look at the circumstances leading to his asking about salvation. Before we begin however, Pastor Broggi looks at the events leading up to the arrest of Paul and Silas in Acts 16. This came about because the two apostles had just cast the demon out of a psychic girl which some men had been using as a means to make money.
